About that last one...

Posted by Cjipo Nov. 17, 2009 @ 1:41 PM EST

I forgot to mention that in addition to any review I make based on my previously mentioned system I will say what it makes me think of, where I think it could be used, what vote I gave it, and whether I downloaded it or not.

I haven't actually used it yet, because my hardware is low quality and kind of run-own, and my software is buggy as heck. I also don't have subwoofers and it would take some time to grade music on this system.

Also, I seem to recall having something else to say.

My new audio grading system

Posted by Cjipo Nov. 14, 2009 @ 12:55 PM EST

For much of my life I believed that on a scale of 1-10, a 10 was off-limits. I know that a lot of people make really good music, much better than mainstream junk, and I myself have handed out 10s in the past, but surely every song has an area in which it can improve.

So, to live up to my recently changed dark aura, I am creating a system that reduces people's scores by factoring things that most people wouldn't even consider. I was inspired by someone else who gave out standardized reviews. Half the score will still be how much I like the song overall, but the other half will be the average of a few things:

1 point for clarity at low volume,
another for clarity at a low bitrate,
and at fewer hertz (so it can have a smaller filesize),
1 point for the song sounding great on standard speakers,
and 1 for sounding even better on headphones/subwoofers,
1 point for good loopability.

The length of the song will affect the score, anything less than 1 minute will be -1 point, 1 to just under 3 will be no difference, 3-4 will be +1, and longer than four will be +1 and 1 extra-credit point.

Lastly, you will get 1 point if your song fits nicely in a playlist of other music. I will then convert these points, minus the ec point if you got it, into stars. I don't really know what to do with the ec point.

As for the five points determined by how much I like it, I'm just warning you that I'll grade you down for leaving it at low volume. If you're using a microphone, go into the Windows sound setup to make sure you're recording at full volume, or just amplify it in Audacity afterwards. You should also go for a single, clear style and mood. I'll make this into a score out of 8 points just like the other half, and convert them both into a number of stars.

FYI, screamers will earn you an instant 0.

There will be a percentage-based penalty over the entire score for remixes, on account of someone else having actually made the song. However, the more original your remix sounds, the less of a penalty you will get. If the original soung is barely recognizeable, you won't get a penalty.

Also you will lose one point for any of the following:
buzzing
screeching
silence between notes
swearing
cheering
repeated use of the exact same pattern

So, I'll just test this out, and everyone is free to use it. It may, however, be subject to change.

Names, and taking back a statement.

Posted by Cjipo Sep. 23, 2009 @ 4:03 PM EDT

So, I just Googled my name and found out that as random as it is, it can still be found on the intertubes.

The first result on the list was from Blenderartists. That was actually me, but I no longer use the account.
A lot of stat-tracking websites have listings just to say that they have never heard of a website by my name. There are also dictionaries and anagram listings, which likewise have never heard of me but make an annoying point of putting in their two cents.
Then there's my NG page! Yays!
It is apparently someone's last name in the Philipines and an automatically generated JPEG image name used by Twitter. o_0
Peope also use it for gaming and once for a spam/scam website. What does that tell you about the internet?

As for my earlier claims that I would actually make a submission, I have recently discovered that most people who allow you "Flash export" don't actually know the meaning of Flash export. That is, all features of what you're working on are stripped out when you use the function, except some programs that are limited to video. Since I recently made the switch to Linux it's hard to get a hlod of any software. For some reason the fools are always making it for Windows.

So... yeah.

Hisotry of me

Posted by Cjipo Jul. 31, 2009 @ 11:39 PM EDT

I doubt any of you care (at least at the time I post this), but here's a little history of the name "Cjipo".

Waaaaaay back (for me) in the time when the the original PlayStation wasn't considered archaic, I owned one. Technically my little brother owned it, but now I own it and it's in a box under the couch I'm sitting on, for the sake of the story I always owned it. To the point, we got the game Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, and created a profile. The username was a jumble of letters, but I eventually realized that I could pronounce it if I really wanted to. C-J-I-P-O.

I used to go by a different name online, one that caused me a good deal of embarassement and that some >_> might assosiate with a fiasco or two I was involved in. In an attempt to come up wih something better to use, I used the name of a character in a book I plan to write *cough*, and also a few variations on the word "nothing". But eventually I went searching for names I had already come up with and rediscovered Cjipo.

Unfortunately I have found some more trouble under this name. I only hope I can fix everything somehow.

In other news, I do plan to submit something. Sometime as soon as possible (within the next year at least).

Hello

Posted by Cjipo Jun. 2, 2009 @ 2:56 PM EDT

After seeing a Youtube video using Newgrounds music I've been surfing Newgrounds listening to music, looking at their favorites to find more good music, and playing games. I finally decided to create an account.

BTW, I can create some images for people to use n their flash as I am good with GIMP. At least sort of.
